Best Buttercream Frosting Recipe
Here’s how to make the best buttercream icing ever! This buttercream frosting is smooth, creamy, not overly sweet and perfect for cakes, cupcakes, or piping.
Classic Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients:
-
250g unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
-
3–4 cups icing sugar (powdered sugar)
-
2–3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
-
2 tsp vanilla extract (or other flavouring like almond, lemon, coconut etc.)
-
Pinch of salt
Method:
-
Beat the butter in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or with hand beaters for 3–5 minutes on medium-high. It should be pale and fluffy.
-
Gradually add icing sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Start on low to avoid a sugar cloud! Don't forget to scrape the sugar down from the sides of the bowl so all the ingredients are blended in.
-
Add vanilla, a pinch of salt, and 2 tbsp of cream. Beat on medium-high for 3–5 minutes more. Add more cream if needed, 1 tsp at a time, until the texture is smooth and spreadable.
-
Optional: Beat for another 2 minutes to whip extra air in if you want it ultra fluffy.
Tips:
-
Sift your icing sugar for ultra-smooth buttercream.
-
Add a bit of our Brilliant White Food Colouring Drops for a brighter white look.
